Inspection guide using Rent Check
A simple, step‑by‑step checklist for completing your inspection quickly and accurately.
1) Start from the email
- Open the email you received requesting your inspection with Rent Check.
- Tap the unique link in that email. It will:
- Take you to the app store to download Rent Check (if you don’t have it yet), or
- Open the app directly to your assigned inspection.
2) While the app is downloading: Go through entire house and Prep each room before photos
- Turn all lights on and open blinds/curtains.
- Tidy major obstructions if safe to do so.
- Wipe your phone’s camera lens for a clear image.
Sign in and allow permissions
- Create an account or sign in (usually with your phone number or email). Enter the verification code if prompted.
- Allow camera and photo permissions so you can take and upload pictures.
3) Open your assigned inspection
In the app, select your property and tap Start Inspection.
Follow the on‑screen prompts. You’ll go room by room until everything shows complete.
4) How to take wide, clear photos (the zoom button)
Most photos should be taken wide so the whole area is in the frame.
Blurry Photos Not Acceptable.
Lights On, Let the Camera Focus.
In the camera view, find the zoom button circled x1. (top right of frame)
Tap the x1 button to cycle zoom levels in this order:
x1 → x2 → x3 → .5x → back to x1
Use .5x for most photos (wide shots). This captures the full room/wall/fixture.
Use x2 or x3 only to zoom in on problem areas (e.g., scratches, stains, leaks).
Important note: If you can’t see .5x, keep tapping the zoom button until .5x appears. (pinch to zoom out may not work to get to .5x so you may need to manually select it.)
Pro tips
- Hold the phone horizontally (landscape) for wider coverage.
- Stand in a corner or doorway to capture more of the space.
- If it’s blurry, retake the photo before moving on.
5) What to photograph in each area
- Use .5x for all initial shots, then add close‑ups only if needed.
- The app will guide you through what to photograph
6) Notes, issues, and problem areas
- When you see a concern (e.g., chip, stain, crack, leak), take a wide .5x photo and a close‑up (x2 or x3).
- Use the app’s Add Note/Issue option (label may vary) to briefly describe the problem and where it is located.
7) Finish each room, then review
- Tap Next/Done for the room once required photos are taken.
- On the Review/Summary screen, make sure each section shows Complete.
8) Submit your inspection
Tap Submit Inspection and keep the app open while photos upload.
- If your WiFi connection is weak, move to cellular signal and try again.
- Sign with your finger stating inspection is complete.
- You’ll receive a confirmation once the upload is finished.
